"In February, 2001 I started my company with a prior client base of 5 years. A client of mine was buying a new home, and asked me to help her pick carpets, floor stain color and wall colors. From that point on, I was doing what I loved to do. After moving into her new home, the word of mouth referrals has kept me busy for more than 10 years.
I pride myself in really listening to the client and trying to give them what I think they are asking for. Most clients don't really know what they like or how to put it into words, but they know what they don't like. I believe design should be practical, but evoke a timeless look.
It's expensive to hire a designer, but even more expensive not to. I have often said that I am there to save the clients both time and money. I love it when clients say, "Just do it, you know what I like", that is when I am the most creative. No constraints!

I have had the pleasure of working on some great homes in North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, Florida, and Rhode Island. My favorite projects are the ones from foundation to completion. Both the client and I take the blueprints to the home, and look at every aspect of function and visual. As an example: it is important to make sure that HVAC vents and electrical outlets are in the right place. The worst thing is to have completed the entire project and realize that small things are overlooked, but become big problems when it comes to adding drapes.

Listening to your home should be the first thing a designer needs to do. If you live in a Traditional home, I believe you should keep with the Traditional lines of the home. Keeping in mind, you can use clean line furniture and give a more updated Traditional look. So many times, I have seen the mix of styles that simply confuses the look. If you stay true to the style of your home, it is a no-brainer on how to design your home.

Most people want that WOW factor! I simply, just get them to it quicker.

Budgets are wonderful! But often the hardest thing to discuss. It is the basis of the project. If you don't know how much you are willing to spend, you will not be prepared to answer the budget question, which is necessarily one of the first questions asked. How much had you thought of spending? Often the answer is " I am not sure." In my experience working with all levels of budget, you won't need to feel uneasy. I'll be glad to work with you on how to determine a budget that is realistic for your project.

Designers also understand "scale." So many times, I have seen the extra large sofa in a room that only needs a loveseat, and we are asked how to fix it. A few hours of time working with a designer would have saved a lot of discord between husband and wife. So often the size of that sofa that you are looking at in the huge store, is going to look even larger in your home.

Feel free to contact me with your questions and ideas. I would love to work with you on your interior design.
